Florida Gulf Coast University: "Dunk City" School Busting Brackets, Winning Over Millions Mar 25th 2013, 19:04 Four days ago, very few people knew Florida Gulf Coast University even existed. Now, thanks to a pair of bracket-busting basketball wins, it's a household name. Florida Gulf Coast University - Dunk City! FGCU became the first-ever 15th-seeded squad to reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament, beating Georgetown and San Diego State. Not just eking out nail-biters in typical Cinderella fashion, either. Fans who watched the fast-breaking, high-flying Eagles saw them TAKING IT to the opposition, outplaying them on substance and with style. Up by eight with five minutes to go? No sense reining in the offense and dribbling off 20-30 seconds of clock. Here comes another no-look alley-opp! FGCU itself is an underdog story, on and off the court. The school didn't even open until 1997. They've had a team for 11 years; a Division I program for six. Coach Andy Enfield earned a $5,000 signing bonus. It's no wonder they've captivated the basketball-watching nation and inspired a music video entitled "Dunk City," their nickname for Fort Myers, Fla. The college, based in that Southwest Florida city, faces its biggest test Friday night - one from its very own state in perennial powerhouse Florida. Can they pull off another upset? The odds are heavily against it, but you can bet that everyone outside of Gainesville is rooting for them, and that the Eagles themselves believe.
