Adam Lambert Parts Ways with Record Label Jan 12th 2013, 23:09 Having made many headlines recently for his criticism of Les Miserables, Adam Lambert is now in the news for his own career and here's why: The singer has parted ways with his record label. Lambert's deal with 19 Entertainment expired this month and The Hollywood Reporter confirms "both sides" have agreed not to sign a new contract. A rep for former American Idol runner-up says the parties leave "amicably and with the utmost respect for each other," adding that the choice for Lambert is just part of his "evolution," which started when he joined Direct Management Group. Under Entertainment 19 since 2009, Lambert has released two studio albums, as well as collections of live tracks and remixes. His latest album, "Trespassing," debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200, with sources saying conversations are already underway about a third CD.

Jan 12th 2013, 22:24 The long-awaited Britney Spears and Jason Trawick breakup reportedly happened because of kids ... though not for the specific reason you might think. Britney, who is already mother to Sean Preston, 7, and Jayden James, 6, really wanted to have more children and Jason did not, according to reports. Jason Trawick, 41, is "just in another place" and does not want to start a family, although he loves Sean Preston, Jayden James and Britney Spears, 31. The former couple argued frequently about expanding their family since getting engaged in December 2011 and this ultimately proved their undoing. Sources also say dealing with Britney Spears - the money-making empire, not the woman - also wore at Jason and "took away his individuality." The agent maintain his identity and one of the things he tried was to expand his business by taking on more clients ... which didn't sit well with Britney. Both Spears and Trawick say they will remain close going forward and this decision, while difficult, was mutual and agreed upon by mature adults. At least on paper, that appears true. The house Britney just bought for them for $8.5 million was purchased solely with her money and she'll keep it. She always paid for the bulk of their lifestyle, but Jason also does well for himself and should continue to, so there's no arguing over money whatsoever.

Sadly, it rejected the request. Guess The Force was not strong enough with this petition. Claiming it would cost an estimated $850,000,000,000,000,000 and that "the administration does not support blowing up planets," Obama nixed the idea. The White House was forced to offer an official response, since the petition garnered the requisite 25,000 signatures on the WeThePeople petitioning system. As we've discussed in the past, this online petitioning process is either one of Team Obama's greatest achievements or an idea they will forever regret. All depends on your point of view, right? Other memorable efforts we've seen in the past two or three months alone: A request to deport Piers Morgan of CNN A demand for a Joe Biden reality show A large-scale Texas secession effort The Death Star petition may take the cake, despite that stiff competition. After the administration's delayed response to the petition was criticized online, the good folks in the executive branch finally replied, titling their answer: "This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For." "The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon," the WH Chief of Science wrote In addition to a reasonable aversion for mass genocide, officials worried that the system has a well-known vulnerability - as proven in Star Wars: Episodes IV and VI. "Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?" the WH asked. Hard to refute that. Aaron Swartz, Reddit Co-Founder, Commits Suicide Jan 12th 2013, 18:50 Aaron Swartz, a programmer and Internet activist who co-founded a company that would eventually become Reddit, committed suicide Friday in N.Y. City. And no, tragically, it's not a hoax, unlike so many memorable recent items emerging from Reddit. His lawyer confirmed the surprising news earlier today. He was only 26 years old. "The tragic and heartbreaking information you received is, regrettably, true," confirmed Swartz' attorney, Elliot R. Peters of Kecker and Van Nest, via email. MIT's student newspaper The Tech was the first to report the suicide of Swartz, who had hinted at battles with depression numerous times in the past. Still, his death came as a surprise to those close to him best. A programmer and progressive, he created an early version of RSS at 14 and then founded Infogami, a website that would go on to merge with Reddit. That site is now a popular online forum and video/image-sharing behemoth with an international reach among the top 100 across the entire Internet. Swartz was indicted in July 2011 by a federal grand jury for allegedly downloading millions of documents from JSTOR through the MIT network. Using a laptop hidden in a basement network closet in MIT's Building 16, he was accused of obtaining the docs with intent to distribute them. He appeared in court on September 24, 2012 and pleaded not guilty. Swartz subsequently worked for the Avaaz Foundation, a nonprofit "global web movement to bring people-powered politics to decision-making everywhere." R.I.P.

Thank you all for your support and prayers." "I am happy to say that Vanessa and I are moving on with our lives together as a family." Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce in December 2011, citing irreconcilable differences, nearly 10 years after she stuck by him during his Colorado rape trial. Kobe was acquitted of all charges, but admitted straying from Vanessa with the desk clerk at a Vail-area resort hotel in a memorable public apology. Vanessa filing to leave Kobe was rumored to be a product of his cheating, as well. This was never confirmed, but he definitely did not want to get divorced. The future NBA Hall of Fame member spent pretty much all of 2012 trying to win his wife back, privately and publicly, and it appears it finally worked. The couple has two daughters. The split follows weeks, if not months of rumors that the relationship was on shaky ground, and the same day as she confirmed quitting The X Factor. "Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have mutually agreed to end their one-year engagement," her rep, Jeff Raymond, told People this evening. "As two mature adults, [Britney and Jason] came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends," Raymond added. Spears and Trawick confirmed their breakup in a statement as well. "Jason and I have decided to call off our engagement," the 31-year-old says in the statement. "I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends." Adds Jason Trawick, her former agent: "As this chapter ends for us a new one begins. I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever."

"I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season," Brit tells ET Online in a statement, adding that Fox was informed of her decision. "I had such an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio." "Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much! I can't wait to get back out there and do what I love most." Spears is reportedly hard at work on her eighth studio album, with her manager, Adam Leber, Tweeting, "It's a little premature to give details on album 8." "I know a lot of you are rabid for info but @britneyspears has only had a few sessions ... I will say we had an incredible session with @EsterDean and @Hit_Boy. Great start." Can't wait. Or blame her from bailing on that sinking ship. As for whether Spears is also going to quit Jason Trawick in 2013, it looks like she's on the verge of dumping him as conservator if nothing else.

The term was broached by Todd Akin - a losing candidate for Congress in Missouri who drew MAJOR fire last year for saying a woman's body "shuts down" in the face of this type of act - and Gingrey tried to defend the point yesterday at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast. "What he meant by legitimate rape was just look, someone can say I was raped: a scared-to-death 15-year-old that becomes impregnated by her boyfriend and then has to tell her parents, that's pretty tough and might on some occasion say, 'Hey, I was raped.' Continued Gingrey, who has served as an OB-GYN. "That's what he meant when he said legitimate rape versus nonlegitimate rape. I don't find anything so horrible about that. But then he went on and said that in a situation of rape, of a legitimate rape, a woman's body has a way of shutting down so the pregnancy would not occur. He's partly right on that." He is? "I've delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, 'Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don't be so tense and uptight, because all that adrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.' "So he was partially right, wasn't he?" Well, no, for the reason that Gingrey himself then outlines: a woman doesn't know when she is going to be raped. "But the fact that a woman may have already ovulated 12 hours before she is raped, you're not going to prevent a pregnancy there by a woman's body shutting anything down, because the horse has already left the barn, so to speak. And yet the media took that and tore it apart." As you might expect, Gingrey was then forced to backtrack from what appeared to be a semi-defense of Akin's position, releasing the following statement today: "I do not defend, nor do I stand by, the remarks made by Rep. Akin. ... In my attempt to provide context as to what I presumed they meant, my position was misconstrued." The lesson, as always: politicians are best served by not bringing up the topic of "legitimate rape."

Vampire Diaries Spinoff: Coming to The CW! Jan 11th 2013, 21:36 The CW is reportedly spinning off The Vampire Diaries into a new series called The Originals, starring Joseph Morgan (Klaus) and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley). An upcoming episode of The Vampire Diaries, the network's biggest hit, will serve as a "backdoor pilot" for The Originals. Tentatively, that's set for April 25. The title refers to Klaus' status as one of the original vampires in the show's mythology. Guy has been doing his badass, yet charming thing for a long time. Also prominently featured will be werewolf Hayley, introduced in the current fourth season. She and Klaus return to the French Quarter of New Orleans. There, in the city he helped build centuries earlier, Klaus will reportedly be reunited with a Marcel, a former protege. No other details are available. Vampire Diaries show-runner Julie Plec will write and produce; no word on any involvement from Klaus' Original siblings Elijah, Kol or Rebekah. Daniel Gillies and Claire Holt (Elijah and Rebekah) also recur on TVD. What do you think? Good idea by the CW? "He is honestly my best friend, and hopefully I'm his best friend, too," the Silver Linings Playbook star told Elle magazine in its December cover story. "He's my favorite person to be around and makes me laugh harder than anybody." Fortunately for Jen, she'll have ample distractions in the next few months as she tries to move on from the breakup - it's awards season in Hollywood. Win or lose, however, the Miss DC has a far more important agenda to take care of following the event: she is scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy. The 24-year old is doing so as a preventive measure to reduce her odds of developing the disease that took her mother, grandmother and great aunt. "My mom would have given up every part of her body to be here for me, to watch me in the pageant," Rose said Wednesday. "If there's something that I can do to be proactive, it might hurt my body, it might hurt my physical beauty, but I'm going to be alive." The University of Maryland student plans to show off her roller skating talents during the annual event and then heed the advice of her father, who broached this idea two years after his wife passed. Rose's mother was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of 27 and Allyn - who does NOT carry the "breast cancer genes" BRCA1 and BRCA2 - says she doesn't want to wait to find out if she'll follow tragic suit. If she wins tomorrow, she hopes to serve as a role model. "I've been thinking how powerful that might be to have a Miss America say, 'I might be Miss America but I'm still going to have surgery. I'm going to take control of my own life, my own health care.' So I guess it's up to what happens on Saturday night."

In that role, he is in charge of her finances and other decisions; the singer has been under the legal conservatorship since melting down in early 2008. "Britney wants Jason removed. He was appointed to the position when she joined The X Factor so that he could be with her at all times while on set," a source says. "The relationship has been more than slightly rocky in the past few months and Brit attributes that to having her man essentially being one of her babysitters." "It has killed the romance in the relationship, and she wants to get it back." Britney split rumors have run rampant in recent months, and this is a big reason why. The legal and business aspect of their relationship has taken over. "Jason is co-conservator of Spears as a person, meaning he controls who she sees, where she goes, etc. Her father has had that role since day one." "She thinks it should be [Jamie Spears] and only him, and not Jason anymore. Jason is in full agreement and supports her decision," the insider added. Is a breakup imminent? That's unclear, but things have been rocky. "Britney and Jason had planned to get married at the end of December, but they have been fighting non-stop, so the wedding has now been called off." It's not anything that Joe's done - at least to them - that has the couple arguing, but rather her treatment of the elder Simpson in the last six months. Jessica wants nothing to do with Joe, 54, after his marriage to her mom Tina fell apart and he was rumored to be involved in a series of gay trysts. Is Joe Simpson gay? That has not been confirmed, but Eric feels that Jessica has treated her dad unfairly in any case, and that has caused a rift.
