Cee Lo Green is under major fire today for remarks he made online after pleading no contest to drug charges in conjunction with an alleged sexual assault in 2012.
After attending a preliminary hearing for an ecstasy possession charge at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles (Green is accused of slipping the drug to a female companion), the former Voice coach took to Twitter to defend himself.
He got into a number of debates with Internet users, but the comment most are focused on in the aftermath of this exchange reads as follows:
If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously. People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!
Green's lawyer argued that his client and the unnamed woman had "consensual relations," despite the alleged victim's claim that she woke up in bed next to Green and was unsure what happened the night before.
The artist faced one felony drug charge for the incident, as prosecutors claimed of lack of evidence made it impossible to press any rape charges being filed.
Green was sentenced to three years of probation, plus 45 days of community service.
He has deleted his entire Twitter account following these remarks, but not before issuing an apology through the social media network.
