After some of the most shocking Dancing with the Stars results in the show's 21 seasons last week, what did the show have in mind for an encore?
In a surreal twist, an ailing Tamar Braxton arrived halfway through the show, staving off the automatic elimination that would have followed a no-show.
Alexa PenaVega then got the boot despite a perfect score ... and a day later, Tamar Braxton almost died and had to pull out of the ABC show anyway.
The pairs were originally supposed to each dance twice, but because of Tamar's exit, the final four each performed a dance-off routine on top of it.
So how did they fare on this crucial semifinal night?
International hero Alek Skarlatos came from the back of the pack to deliver a waltz with Lindsay Arnold that instantly catapulted him into contention.
Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson's contemporary routine, which featured a shirtless Carlos and a Britney-esque Whitney, earned mixed reviews.
Frontrunner Bindi Irwin fell short of perfection with a spunky salsa to open the evening, as the judges felt she had to bring more sex appeal to the floor.
Nick Carter missed a few tango steps, but Sharna Burgess helped the boy bander right the ship and kept him right where he needed to be at the top.
In the dance-offs, Bindi turned up the heat to secure the bonus points, which gave her score an added boost of three heading into the trio dances.
Mark Ballas joined Bindi and Derek for an edgy jazz routine that DWTS judges and fans alike lost their minds over and earned them all perfect scores.
Nick and Sharna also received perfect scores for a sexy salsa with Peta Murgatroyd, a boon to his chances given his lackluster start from earlier.
Karina Smirnoff worked with Carlos and Witney on a quirky Charleston, a totally new routine for all of them, yet still good enough for 29 out of 30.
Alek, Lindsay and his crush Emma Slater took part in an Argentine tango that lost some juice at the end, but still kept them in solid territory.

How Nick Carter and Bindi Irwin were in the bottom two, along with Alek Skarlatos, we can't say, but that's DWTS for you. You just shake your head.
Instead, it was revealed at the last moment that there would simply be no elimination Monday, and everyone would survive another week. PHEW!
