Michael told the audience that he believes Andy faked his death, having found an essay written by Andy detailing on how he planned to pull it off.
Andy's alleged daughter (above) also appeared to corroborate the story.
Michael claimed Andy's letter instructed him to go to a specific restaurant on Christmas Eve, 1999, upon which an anonymous man handed him another missive.
He read that note aloud to the stunned New York City crowd.
Andy allegedly wrote "everything was great in his life and he just wanted to get away from being Andy Kaufman," adding that he had fallen in love.
He and the woman were raising a daughter together.
At that point, Michael shocked the audience further by bringing a young woman on stage and introducing her as the 24-year-old daughter Andy spoke of.
The woman claimed Andy Kaufman is her father, living in secret as a stay-at-home dad, and had planned on coming forward that night but backed out.
She also claimed that Andy originally agreed to come out of hiding after 29 years to attend the awards, but he backed out at the last minute.
The Hollywood Reporter has since reached out to Michael, who claimed that the mystery woman was impossible to reach for any additional questions.
