And now a woman on Reddit has won the wedding dress game by creating her own masterpiece for a grand total of $30, crocheting the gown during various commutes to work on the bus.
It took this bride-to-be about five months and, of course, it helps if one is really good at knitting.
But the following stop motion video depicts the beginning product and the finished product and proves that one need not mortgage one's financial future for a dress one will wear a single time.
The dress is also machine washable, adds the unnamed woman, who writes on Reddit that it "doesn't wrinkle or need any special care, and I plan on wearing it again with linings of different colors and with the train bustled up in different ways."
