Frank Sinatra, Jr. - the singer and composer best known as the son of music legend Frank Sinatra - has passed away at the age of 72.
According to early reports, Sinatra suffered a massive heart attack while on tour in Florida.
Sources say Sinatra canceled a show in Daytona Beach after complaining of feeling lightheaded.
Hours later he was rushed to the Halifax Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Though his own music career was overshadowed by those of his father and older sister, Nancy Sinatra, Frank Jr. headlined a successful touring act for several decades and worked with some of the most famous recording artists of his generation.
He also racked up dozens of acting credits over the course of his 50 years in show business, including humorously self-deprecating roles on The Sopranos and Family Guy.
Sinatra was famously kidnapped in an incident that captured national media attention in 1963.
For the remainder of his life, Sinatra was haunted by rumors that he staged the kidnapping in order to extort money from his father.
The myth persisted despite the fact that an FBI investigation cleared Sinatra of any wrongdoing, and the actual kidnappers were eventually arrested and convicted.
Tributes to Sinatra from friends, family and fans have been pouring in from all corners of social media. He is survived by his son, Michael Sinatra.
