Joanie Laurer, a former WWE superstar who went by the name of "Chyna" during her wrestling days, was found dead inside her Redondo Beach on Wednesday.
She was 45 years old.
According to TMZ, Laurer had not been heard from in a few days.
Therefore, a friend went to check on her around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, only to find her unresponsive in her bedroom. This friend then called the police.
No official cause of death has been determined, but authorities found prescription drugs on the premises and have not ruled out an overdose.
There were no signs of foul play and nothing illegal found in the residence.
"It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero," a statement on Laurer's Twitter account reads.
"Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away, She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her."
Laurer was best known in the ring for teaming with Triple H (who she also dated in real life) as an original member of Degeneration X.
Following her stint as a professional wrestler, she posed for Playboy and was a cast member on a season of The Surreal Life.
She also released six adult films between the years of 2004 and 2013 and often struggled with substance abuse, appearing once on Celebrity Rehab in 2008.
Among those who shared their condolences on Twitter was actress Alyssa Milano, who wrote "Chyna. Rest in peace."
The Hollywood Gossip, who interviewed Laurer in the summer of 2011, would like to pass along the same sentiment.
