Tom Cruise Wiretapping Lawsuit: Dismissed! Mar 19th 2013, 18:18 A judge has officially dismissed a $5 million wiretapping lawsuit against actor Tom Cruise and his longtime attorney Bert Fields, according to reports. The case dates all the way back to 2009, when Bold magazine editor Michael Davis Sapir sued the actor and his lawyer for hiring Anthony Pellicano. Allegedly, Cruise and Fields hired the former private investigator to spy on him by tapping his phones in the midst of another lawsuit with the actor. THAT dates back to 2001, when Cruise sued Sapir for $100 million after the celebrity news magazine editor offered a bounty for proof that Cruise is gay. Sapir supposedly offered $500,000 reward for info to that effect, and claimed he had video evidence of Cruise engaging in a homosexual relationship. The suit was settled out of court, with both parties acknowledging the tape did not exist, but eight years later, Sapir said Cruise spied on him during the case. When the lawsuit was filed in 2009, Fields responded, "The allegations are absolute garbage. We did not even hire Pellicano to work on the Sapir case." Regardless of whether the star and his lawyer spied on Sapir, Judge Elihu Berle ruled that the allegations weren't brought within the statute of limitations. The case was therefore dismissed. Cruise's separate $50 million defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media for claiming that he had abandoned his daughter, Suri Cruise, is still pending. It is expected to go to trial in 2014.
