M.K. Nobilette Comes Out as First Openly Gay American Idol Contestant Feb 13th 2014, 12:57, by Hilton Hater It may not have the same ripple effects as the announcement by Michael Sam, but M.K. Nobilette went down in history last night on American Idol: She became the first openly gay contestant to compete on the Fox series. In speaking to the judges while awaiting to learn her fate, Nobilette told J. Lo, Harry and Keith: "I'm very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me. But I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that, and have made it a positive thing."
