Lauren Sanchez, a former news reporter and anchor on Extra, will sit in with Whoopi Goldberg, Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd on Wednesday as a guest host of The View.
According to TMZ sources, producers want to see Sanchez's chemistry with Goldberg in order to determine if Sanchez would make a strong permanent co-host of the ABC program.
The View, of course, is undergoing a major transformation.
McCarthy and Shepherd will be gone this fall, with Rosie O'Donnell officially booked to return alongside Goldberg.
That leaves two more open spots.
Names that have been floated include Sarah Palin, Meghan McCain and even Andi Dorfman, although insiders now say The View is looking for one conservative and one Latina.
Sanchez was nearly hired for the gig way back in 2000, but the show went with Lisa Ling instead.
Sarah Palin won't dismiss the possibility. She has acknowledged that The View needs fresh blood.
