Days before the Josh Duggar molestation scandal broke, it seems his wife Anna Duggar knew exactly what storm was about to hit.
She posted cryptic quote about forgiveness on Instagram, one that's easy to interpret much differently in light of what we now know.
"The three most beautiful and liberating words in the English language are these," it said, quoting the pastor Lon Solomon. "'I forgive you.'"
Solomon, a senior pastor at a Virginia megachurch, is the author of a book titled Brokenness: How God Redeems Pain and Suffering.
Just days later, Josh admitted and apologized for "inexcusable" behavior when he was a teenager, without going into any real detail.
The leaked police report investigating Josh's conduct said it all, though. He allegedly sexually abused five underage girls in the early 2000s.
Some of Duggar's victims were his family members. It's unclear which Duggar sisters were his victims, but one may still be a minor.
On top of her Instagram quote, the pregnant mother of three (soon to be four) Anna, 26, stood by her husband, 27, in a statement.
"I can imagine the shock many of you are going through reading this. I remember feeling that same shock," she shared last Thursday.
"When my family and I first visited the Duggar home, Josh shared his past teenage mistakes. I was surprised at his openness and humility."
"At the same time, I didn't know why he was sharing this. For Josh, he wanted not just me but my parents to know who he really was."
That, she said, included "even every difficult past mistake."
Josh has since stepped down from his post at the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying group based in Washington, D.C.
He has drawn scrutiny not only from the public but from celebrities galore, and the scandal will likely lead to the end of his family's show.
TLC has pulled all episodes of 19 Kids and Counting from TV and the Internet, and the program's advertisers have been dropping like flies.
