Confused by that headline? You should be. Allow us to explain:
Yesterday, it seemed all but certain that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner were ready to call it quits.
Sources said Garner had told her parents her marriage was over and had already begun the process of relocating her family as far away from Ben as possible.
Yes, insiders claim Garner is moving to Montreal, because apparently you literally have to go to a different country to avoid running into Batfleck side-pieces everywhere you go.
Needless to say, the future of Bennifer was looking bleak. But this morning, two conflicting updates about the situation surfaced online, and now we don't know what to think.
First, Ben and Jen were spotted strolling with their kids (in matching outfits, no less) through well-trafficked areas of LA. Not exactly the actions of a couple who's ready to call it quits.
But just as we were ready to declare that these two crazy kids might just make it after all, Radar Online reported that Affleck has consulted with divorce attorneys and intends to proceed with a legal separation prior to the couple's upcoming tenth anniversary.
"Ben and his team have definitely been engaging divorce attorneys," says one insider. "He's positioning for a divorce...No one is surprised [he is talking to attorneys]. They are more surprised they lasted this long."
Sources say Ben and Jen will announce their split sometime in the next few weeks, and the timing makes sense for a number of reasons:
- It would allow for enough time to pass between the separation and the start of the Batman v. Superman press tour that every article about Ben as the Caped Crusader wouldn't feel the need to make mention of his ongoing divorce.
- California's notorious "10 year rule" might result in bigger alimony payments for Ben if he and Jen reach the decade mark.
So it makes sense that they'd want to make the split official ASAP. But it makes no sense that they'd be strolling down Sunset together with their kids in tow.
Are these two trying to execute a Gwyneth-style "conscious uncoupling"? At this point, your guess is as good as ours.
