Maine High School Basketball Players in Trouble for Nazi Salute, Hitler References Feb 8th 2013, 18:34 A trio of high school basketball players in Cumberland, Maine made headlines for all the wrong reasons this week, Tweeting a photo of themselves making the Nazi salute. The young ladies - unidentified because they are minors - also made numerous anti-Semetic references in Twitter posts, seemingly aimed at a Jewish teammate. "So Jewish to have prac on Christmas Eve day," reads on Tweet on December 24, with another stating: "If [name redacted] picked me up, she would've made me do sprints, then put me in a gas chamber." Greely High School Principal Dan McKeone says the students have been disciplined, but he did not provide any further details. In a letter sent home to parents of members of the basketball team, McKeone and Athletic Director David Shapiro wrote: "These events, while disturbing, also provide us with an opportunity to teach our children about tolerance and respect... "We will be working with the team in order to help them gain a better understanding of the ramifications of incidents such as this. We will also been looking for additional opportunities to educate the greater school community."
