In the wake of the June Shannon-Mark McDaniel scandal, many wondered why Georgia state officials would permit 9-year-old Alana Thompson (better known as Honey Boo Boo) to continue living with her disgraced mother.
We now know that child protective services informed Shannon that Alana could remain in the home only under the condition that Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson move back into the home he once shared with Mama June.
Thompson and Shannon broke up back in September, reportedly as a result of her relationship with McDaniel.
In the wake of allegations that Shannon is dating McDaniel despite the fact that he was convicted of molesting one of her children, CPS determined that Shannon was unfit to care for three children without an additional adult in the house to provide further supervision:
"Social workers weren't comfortable with only one adult supervising the three minor children," sources tell Radar Online.
Of course, as viewers of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo are aware, Mama June's house makes for cramped living quarters, and things between Shannon and Thompson are reportedly just as awkward as you might expect:
"Sugar Bear and Mama June can't even be in the same room together at the small house," the insider says.
"He doesn't believe her constant denials in the media that she only saw Mark McDaniels twice. He is only staying in the house so the girls don't get taken away from June."
Sources say Thompson will not fight for custody of Honey Boo Boo, as he lacks the proper means to care for her.
June claimed the photo of her lying in bed with Mark McDaniel was Photoshopped by TMZ. She was unable to produce the original image that TMZ had allegedly edited.
