Cyndy Garvey, the ex-wife of former Major League Baseball star Steve Garvey, has sued UCLA - for the most unusual of reasons.
See, Garvey was once famous. She actually hosted a morning talk show with Regis Philbin before Kathie Lee Gifford and Kelly Ripa ever sat alongside the TV personality.
And in her lawsuit, filed this week in Los Angeles Superior Court, Garvey alleges that two honchos at UCLA offered to pay for the cost of her education if she enrolled in a Master's Program at the university's Public Health school.
Why? They believed UCLA would benefit from her "celebrity status."
Fast forward to 2009 and Garvey completes her program, while also fulfilling obligations that include fundraising and public relations.
But she now says she was hit last year with a $20,000 tax lien for an unpaid debt to the school. D'oh!
In response, Garvey - who never signed any kind of agreement - wants UCLA to pay around $25,0
