Melissa Gorga has responded to critics of her new, controversial book.
With many readers believing the reality star is advocating some form of marital rape - due to a passage written by husband Joe in which he tells men that their wife "wants to be taken" - Gorga tells E! News:
"That word [rape] is so disgusting to me and that's horrible.
Melissa and Joe both talk about women being subordinate to their men in "Love Italian Style," yet Melissa says critics are taken their words out of context.
"My book is about mutual respect with your partner, for one another," Gorga says. "It's about honesty, it's about loyalty, it's about making your partner first in your life. Where that word comes into play, to me, is awful and disgusting, to be honest with you."
The Real Housewives of New Jersey cast member also writes about wives allowing their husbands to yell at them (as a stress reliever), while also saying they ought to do housework (to "stay grounded").
"Listen, I knew it was going to be controversial, there was no doubt in my mind," Gorga says. "But it's about my marriage and what works for us. And it does work for us and I think there are some really great tips in there."
As for the advice she gives when it comes to the bedroom?

For the second time in two days, Khloe Kardashian has taken a not-so-subtle shot at Lamar Odom.
First, the reality star dropped her estranged husband's last name from her Twitter profile. On the couple's four-year wedding anniversary, no less.
Now, in a new Instagram posting, Khloe has referenced a gift bestowed upon her by good friends Malika and Khadijah Haqq: a crystal heart the pals gave to her that reads "Khloé, Love You 4 Ever."
"I have the best friends in the world! @theeforevermalika @imforeverkhadijah," Kardashian wrote as a caption, clearly taking a dig at Odom by NOT mentioning him or anything he presented to her for the big occasion.
Reports had indicated that Lamar was planning a major anniversary surprise for his wife, but nothing has come of that rumor yet.
Instead, Khloe was spotted at the gym this week, while witnesses spotted Odom in downtown Los Angeles outside the Roosevelt Lofts, where he's been staying this month.
Mostly staying, that is.
Multiple insiders have alleged that Odom has been spending a lot of time outside the city over the past couple weeks, scarcely leaving a private residence where he's been binging on cocaine with random friends and women.
Lamar, for his part, has kept mostly mum about his ongoing drug problems and alleged affairs.
But he did speak out in defense of the Kardashians this week after his father went off on the family during an interview with Radar Online.

Alanis Morissette Sued By Nanny Over Lack of Meal Breaks, Overtime Pay >>Hollywood

Alanis Morissette is being sued by a former nanny who alleges that the singer never paid her overtime or allowed her to take breaks during 12-hour shifts.
Morissette, 39, and husband Mario "Souleye" Treadway have been sued by ex-employee Bianca Cambeiro, who filed the claims in court papers Thursday.
Cambeiro cared for the couple's son Ever, who turns three on Christmas of this year, 3-4 days a week. And boy, those 3-4 days a week were rough!
Bianca says in court documents that she began working for Alanis Morissette in August 2011 at their Brentwood, Calif., home for the rate of $25 an hour.
Sounds like a great gig, right? Not so much, Bianca says.
Asked why she wasn't being paid overtime, Alanis' accountant allegedly said, "We don't do that." And her complaints don't stop there by any means.
Cambeiro claims she was prohibited from leaving the baby's room while it was sleeping unless one of the parents or until the day shift nanny relieved her.
According to the documents, the ex-nanny seeks no less than $100,000 for a list of reasons, including emotional distress, attorney fees and lost wages.
As a non-exempt employee who worked over 10 hours a day, she claims she was legally entitled
