Now, in a cover story for Interview Magazine, the actress comes out swinging against any critic of The Twilight Saga, acknowledging that the franchise "ebbed and flowed" but not making any apologies at all for the final product.
"The intention is so f-cking pure in a weird way," Stewart tells Patti Smith of the series that made her famous. "Anybody who wants to talk sh-t about Twilight, I completely get it, but there's something there that I'm endlessly f-cking proud of. My memory of it... still feels really good."
The star also has a soft spot for Bella Swan.
Yes, the character who fell for Edward Cullen (the dreamy Robert Pattinson, who Stewart famously dated for years) acted "retarded" at times, Stewart admits, but:
"She gives everything for love. And she goes as far as that will take her."
In this case, though, the topic shifts to acting and how much Stewart reveals of herself in a role.
"I don't think that there's much hiding that actors can do," she explains. "If you're doing good work, you're showing a part of yourself to someone, so I can't say that Twilight doesn't have anything to do with Still Alice and Sils Maria. They have everything to do with each other.
