Josh Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting is hearing it from a growing chorus of social media critics after professing his belief in religious freedom on Twitter.
What did he say that landed him in hot water - or at least kicked the proverbial hornet's nest - this time around? Scroll down for the rundown ...
"We must stand up for the freedom of all Americans to live out their faith. #FreetoBelieve" wrote the eldest of Jim Bob and Michelle's 19 Kids and Counting.
"The freedom to believe is one of the most fundamental rights in America," Josh Duggar, 27, added. "We must stand together to defend it. #FreetoBelieve"
His wife Anna Duggar also jumped in, adding, "America is the land of the free -- we must stand together to protect our freedom to believe. #FreetoBelieve"
Of course, no one actually thinks freedom of religion - one of the pillars of our society, and a cornerstone of American life for centuries - is a bad thing.
The irony of Josh playing the victim having to "defend" such a right, while frequently and vocally criticizing others' choices, did not escape people however.
Political activist Josh Duggar fights gay rights frequently, and unabashedly, while his pregnant wife has been stirring the pot frequently as well.
Not surprisingly, their comments on religious freedom sparked plenty of retorts pointing out what many felt is hypocrisy. A sampling of choice replies:
@joshduggar you on the other hand have twisted this self righteous notion to advocate to take away others rights.
@joshduggar living out your faith does not equal using your beliefs as a means to oppress other people, like LGBTQ people.
@joshduggar #FreetoBelieve in any god, or gods... right? Not just your preferred version of the Christian god.
@joshduggar you ARE #FreetoBelieve but your beliefs should not impinge on the human rights of others. #liveandletlive
@Anna_Duggar For all faiths including Islam. You agree with that, right?
@Anna_Duggar then respect other people's decisions to believe as they do. You want to take away people's right to LOVE for one. Hypocrisy :(
All interesting points, but whichever side of the debate you're on, what's undeniable is that Josh and Anna are steadfast in their beliefs, and sharing them.
Don't expect any apologies anytime soon, in other words, or any dialing back in the number of public comments on polarizing topics made by the couple.
To see the Duggar family at their least controversial, and focusing on things that don't incite Twitter maelstroms, watch 19 Kids and Counting online.
Your hubby comes home after a hard day's work, you get the baby to bed, and he is going to be looking forward to that time with you. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love, and you always need to be available when he calls. - Michelle
A couple of weeks after we went to the Holocaust Museum, it dawned on us that there is a holocaust taking place right here in America!...More than 56 million lives have been destroyed in our country! That is over 4,000 babies being killed and 4,000 women being wounded each day. - Michelle
We still love everyone as Christ commands, we still have compassion, we still have those kinds of feelings, but we have our convictions. We have our beliefs. If you really love somebody, youĆ¢€™re going to tell the truth. The BibleĆ¢€™s not neutral about lifestyles. The Bible blesses and approves of some and not others. - Josh
You may not wanna push the wedding date out too far, as those natural God-given desires with too much time between engagement and marriage can make it harder to remain pure - Jill
You cannot get un-pregnant. If you are pregnant, take responsibility and take care of yourself and your baby and God will take care of you. - Jill, Jana and Jessa
Because of the violence of abortion, over 16 million black people are history. Human beings should be remembered, not dismembered. - Anna, on Black History Month
It would allow men - yes, I said men - to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. - Michelle
We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary. We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband... We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we wear an undershirt. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don't want to play the peekaboo game with our neckline. - Jana, Jessa, Jill and Jinger
That's a signal to the boys, and even to Dad, that they should nonchalantly drop their eyes and look down at their shoes as we walk past her... It's meant to help keep the guys' eyes from seeing things they shouldn't be seeing. By using the single-word signal, the warning can be given quietly and discreetly. - Jana, Jessa, Jill and Jinger, on their code word ("Nike") to the males in their family when they encounter women who aren't subscribing to a similar dress code
I walked through the Holocaust Museum again today... very sobering. Millions of innocents denied the most basic and fundamental of all rights: their right to life... We must be a voice for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS. - Jessa
I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men ... Where [Catholics] depart from Scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors. - Ben Seewald
After deleting photos of gay people kissing on Facebook, Michelle and Jim Bob shared this quote from Rick Warren: Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. Second is that to love someone means that you must agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.
The idea of overpopulation is not accurate because, really, the entire population of the world, if they were stretched shoulder to shoulder, could fit within the city limits of Jacksonville. - Michelle
