Lena Dunham has found one line of criticism she simply can't ignore.
The Girls star, who is no stranger to stirring up controversy (she started the #StoptheStigma campaign after NBC refused to air an ad that mentioned the word abortion) has fired back at critics who have somehow suggested she molested her little sister when both were toddlers.
The allegation stems from a story in Dunham's best-selling memoir, "Not That Kind of Girl."
An excerpt from that book reads:
One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn't resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.
Dunham was seven years old at the time and actually found multiple pebbles shoved up her sibling's private part.
She wrote about this tale to depict the "spectrum of things [she] did" as a child, opening up to readers about her eccentricities, even at a young age.
But the politically conservative site Truth Revolt didn't find it funny. It has alleged that Dunham abused her sister with the act.
"The right wing news story that I molested my little sister isn't just LOL – it's really f------ upsetting and disgusting," Dunham Tweeted in response over the weekend, adding.
"Usually this is stuff I can ignore but don't demean sufferers, don't twist words," she continued. "I told a story about being a weird seven year old. I bet you have some too..."
The 28-year old writer/producer/actress did conclude on a funny/positive note, however, writing:
"I wish my sister wasn't laughing so hard."
