In a new revealing interview, Demi Lovato makes a very personal admission:
She nearly returned to rehab as recently as last year.
Speaking to Fitness magazine, the 22-year old artist admits that remaining strong and healthy has been "difficult" ever since leaving a treatment center in late 2010.
"I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer," Lovato says. "I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer [Valderrama, her boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief."
Lovato has been open about her struggles for a long time now, recently calling out Meghan Trainor for cracking an eating disorder joke.
The young star says she's now on a "structured meal plan," eating "four small meals and two snacks a day" in order to avoid the sort troubles that plagued her in the past.
"It helps to remind myself how far I've come," she explains to the publication. " I recently saw pictures from my first tour, and I spent that whole summer performing in the heat in a red leather jacket because I was ashamed to show my arms. And that was when I was 105 pounds"
How have things changed?
"This tour, I've had the confidence to show my arms at every single concert. It may seem like a small thing, but for me, that's huge."
And Lovato also has the confident to show off her body online, something she never would have done just a couple years ago.
"My energy and endurance have gone way up," Lovato adds, saying she looks to Beyonce for inspiration:
"If she can work out, have the incredible body she has, have a kid, and be as successful as she is, then I sure as hell can, too."
