It's official - The Daily Show has found someone to take over for Jon Stewart when the beloved host steps down from his longtime gig later this year.
Several A-list celebs were mentioned as candidates for the job, but it looks as though producers have decided to take a chance on a relative unknown by handing the reins of the iconic satire series over to 31-year-old South African comic Trevor Noah.
We think it's safe to say that Noah's not exactly a household name, but Daily Show fans have been enjoying his wry, witty (dare we say Colbert-esque?) take on the headlines since December, and the comic is well-accustomed to breaking down barriers and surprising audiences.
Noah was the first South African comedian to appear on both The Tonight Show and The Late Show With David Letterman, and his groundbreaking career and fascinating upbringing (his parents interracial marriage was illegal in South Africa at the time of his birth) made him the subject of a 2012 documentary.
Ever since Stewart announced that he'd be leaving The Daily Show back in February, fans have been lobbying for well-known comics like Tina Fey and John Oliver to succeed him, and with the show's incredible popularity, producers could've had their pick of big name talents.
Needless to say, the choice of Noah is quite the vote of confidence for the young up-and-comer.
Only time will tell if he's up to the task of balancing humor and shattering insights in the fashion that's made The Daily Show essential viewing for left-leaning comedy fans, but for now one thing is certain - knowing that the show will go on makes the loss of Stewart on late night somewhat easier to take.
