In response to a petition to deport Piers Morgan from the U.S., a group of Britons who are not huge fans have started a rival petition to keep him in America.
Morgan's spirited anti-gun rants since the Newtown, Connecticut shooting have spurred calls for the CNN host to be sent back to his native Britain.
Of course, while gun control foes would love nothing more, there's no chance. The First Amendment protects his right to ... criticize the Second Amendment.
Still, this petition has more than 80,000 signatures, and has alarmed a group of Britons who have eagerly come to the outspoken Morgan's defense.
Not because they're fans; they just don't want him back in the UK.
Talented though he may be, Piers period as editor of the Daily Mirror did leave many with a less than favorable opinion of him across the Atlantic.
Which leads us to petition #2 on the White House site, which was reported today by Forbes. In it, concerned residents petition the Obama administration to:
Keep Piers Morgan in the USA
We want to keep Piers Morgan in the USA.
There are two very good reasons for this. Firstly, the first amendment.
Second and the more important point. No one in the UK wants him back.
It only has 3,800 signatures so far, but give it time. Also, there are only 60 million Brits and 300 million-plus Americans, so you have to consider that.
Which will win out? Distaste for Piers Morgan among U.S. gun advocates fed up with his liberal views
