Any hour of television that begins with Daniel Gillies shirtless is a good thing. On that, we can all agree, right?
Combine this unusual sight with the rare occurrence of Elijah's vampire face and The Originals Season 2 Episode 5 was a winner after just a few minutes.
And that was before Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) even showed up as yet another Doppleganger, Tatia.
She appeared via flashback as part of Esther's master plan:
If she could take Elijah back to a time when he and Klaus both loved the same woman, if she could show him the kind of pain that living forever as a vampire can inflict... perhaps he'll want to be placed inside a mortal body and go on as a witch instead.
We learned here that Tatia was a village widow and she chose Elijah back in the day. Esther was on board with the match. She had hoped the couple would get married.
HOWEVER, Elijah, unable to resist his blood lust, hurt his beloved soon after he discovered that Klaus (in werewolf form) murdered six villagers. The memory was painful for Elijah to relive, but not enough to make him want to turn away from vampirism.
Elsewhere, Cami and Kaleb took care of Davina, with Klaus agreeing to take the girl to a hospital and to spare Kaleb's life eve. Has he really turned over a more peaceful leaf?
But after Klaus sent Cami to get the car, Klaus waits and waits for her return... only to realize Mikael has taken her hostage. Also, Vincent calls Kaleb to tell him he'll need to end Davina's spell - or end Davina. He tries the former.
Later on, Davina learns the truth about Kaleb, that he's Kol. After initially distrusting him because, you know, that's a pretty major lie and all, she actually chooses to work with him in order to stop Mikael.
Klaus tracks Mikael and Cami to a clearing in the woods. After killing all the party goers who have been compelled to take him down, Klaus receives a call from Hayley, alerting him to Elijah's situation. Marcel overhears that Mikael has Cami as his prisoner, while Klaus keeps tracking Mikael, as do Davina and Kol (yes, we can now refer to him as "Kol.")
Davina and Kol UN-spell the White Oak stake while Mikael and Klaus go at it as only these two can. Soon, Marcel and Hayley appear and help Klaus, but Mikael vanishes before they can kill him again.
Fun episode, huh? Cool appearance by Dobrev? Solid background on Elijah? Strong fight scenes?
