Joel Madden and Nicole Richie are on the rocks and on the brink of divorcing after eight years of dating and four years of marriage, according to a new report.
So what's the issue? What's not the issue, apparently.
"Nicole and Joel are at odds over everything," an insider revealed, claiming that it's so bad that Richie, 33, and Madden, 36, are "on the brink of divorce."
"They've been spending more time apart because all they do is fight when they're together ... Nicole can be very forceful when she doesn't get her way."
Joel, for his part, "doesn't respond well to that."
For what it's worth, the last time they were seen out together was March 12, when the two joined Benji Madden and Cameron Diaz for dinner in L.A.
The Madden brothers' 36th birthday was the occasion, but just two days before, Richie was spotted house hunting without her wedding ring or husband.
"If it wasn't for the kids, they would probably be divorced already," explained the insider of the feuding parents to daughter Harlow, 7, and son Sparrow, 5.
"Nicole's trying to hang on for their sake," but everyone has their limits, and to make a long story short, at this stage, "she's at her breaking point."
