In November of last year, Dwight Howard was investigated for child abuse after authorities in Cobb County, Georgia were informed that the NBA all-star had beaten his 7-year-old son Braylon with a belt.
The case was eventually dropped and Howard will not be facing any charges.
Many within Howard's inner circle came forward to defend him as a man and as a parent during the investigation, but it seems one interested party believes that justice was definitely not served.
Braylon's mother, Royce Reed, has long been openly critical of Howard's parenting, but it seems she's not the one who tipped off authorities, and she never wanted Howard to go to jail.
Even so, sources tell TMZ that Reed believes the justice system failed her and has not done enough to protect her son.
"She never asked for Dwight to be arrested," says one insider. "She asked him to get help and take parenting classes. Her child is terrified of his father.
When reached for comment, Howard's reps weren't quite so conciliatory:
"It is sad that Royce Reed continues to use her son as a pawn in the media, despite court orders prohibiting her from doing so," says Howard's attorney.
Sounds like Dwight and Royce won't be peacefully co-parenting any time soon.
