Ever since Zayn Malik quit One Direction there have been dozens of theories as to what led the fan-favorite crooner to part ways with the band that made him famous.
Now, it seems there are some issues between Malik and Edwards, but they're far worse than any Directioners imagined.
In a turn of events that's sure to shock the band's millions of fans, Zayn has revealed that he's broken up with Edwards in order to enter into a relationship with British pop star Ellie Goulding.
Amazingly, Malik says he and Goulding have been dating in secret for several months.
"She's the girl I've been looking for more whole life," Malik told UK fan magazine Bangers & Smash. "Obviously, Perrie wasn't happy about it, and neither was Niall [Horan], but I just couldn't pretend anymore."
Malik's remark about his bandmate refers to the fact that Goulding once cheated on Ed Sheeran with Horan. In addition to his years of working with Horan in 1D, Malik is also longtime friends Sheeran.
"They'll get over it," Zayn said when asked about betraying two of his closest mates. "Besides, I seriously doubt either of them is having trouble getting laid."
When questioned about what caused him to choose Goulding over Edwards, Malik was surprisingly frank, stating:
"Someone told me that Perrie isn't famous in America. Apparently, Ellie has had, like, a couple songs on the radio there, so the choice is obvious. Had to step my game up, you know what I mean? I'm Zayn, mother f--kers!"
Asked for a final comment on these stunning revelations, Zayn added, "It's just an April Fools Day joke, y'all!!! The Hollywood Gossip and I are not responsible for Directioners who may have had coronary events while reading this article."
