The Real Housewives of New York City Season 7 Episode 6 marked Ramona's first birthday without Mario, so it was time for quiet reflection.
Just kidding! The ladies took a limo to Atlantic City to help her celebrate!
When The Real Housewives of New York City Season 7 Episode 6 got underway, things picked up where they left off last week.
Last week's episode was the beginning of The Sonja Show. With the spotlight on Sonja's legal troubles, drinking, and delusional behavior, the past two episodes have illuminated the sad and troubled existence of Sonja Morgan.
It isn't just viewers that can't stand Sonja—the other housewives can't stand her either.
The episode opens abruptly in the midst of Heather yelling that "Lady Morgan" is a b*tch. "I've been there for Sonja," she complains. "I've carried her up the stairs and put her in bed."
The start fight breaks out within seconds of the episode's start, so it is difficult to decipher exactly what is going on. But it doesn't take long to learn that this is yet ANOTHER moment underscoring Sonja's insufferable personality.
All of the ladies (sans LuAnn and Carole) are supposed to meet at Sonja's Upper East Side home. But when Bethenny calls to say she is going to be late, the ladies ask Sonja to come inside her home.
One would assume she would simply say yes. But she demanded the ladies wait outside in the cold and rain.
This vignette begins the episode's constant and incessant fighting for the remaining 59 minutes of the episode.
Heather confronts Sonja for not letting them in the house. And Sonja shoots back with a fine example of her insufferableness: "I have dogs that can run out the front door." Uh, what???
In typical housewife fashion, everyone starts wailing in high-pitched squeals. It is impossible to understand what they are saying. Everyone hates everyone. No one wants to be friends anymore. Blah blah blah.
During the fight, Sonja spouts off a nauseating comment: "I have friends around the world laying out the red carpet for me."
I bet the judge didn't roll out a red carpet when he/she determined you owe $7 million in a lawsuit, Sonja. Just sayin'.
Bethenny tries to reason with Sonja and takes it upon herself to tell her what everyone in America has been dying to say—you are a selfish, pretentious, b*tch, Sonja.
Of course, Sonja doesn't get it.
What makes Sonja completely unbearable is that she is incapable of seeing the world for what it is, especially when it comes to her own behavior. She is so miserable that she has created a false understanding of reality that is even too ridiculous for reality television.
As Bethenny tries to tell Sonja to check her pretentious behavior, Sonja is only capable of responding with more egotistical comments.
In fact, later in the episode, after Bethenny repeatedly tells Sonja to stop talking about herself, Sonja tells Dorinda that she parties with "John John Kennedy and Madonna all the time."
Dorinda wittingly responds, "John John is dead."
Sonja is impossible.
When she came on the show in season 3, she was a fan favorite. She had a spirit and likeable-ness about her. She gave the audience what they wanted. A little glitz and glam. A little drama. Lots of fashion. And a good sense of humor.
Unfortunately, her rise to fame on the show has led to a despicable version of the housewife most of us loved. Her grandiose comments, binge drinking, and name dropping make her inauthentic and frustrating.
No one is really expecting a reality star to be truly authentic. Acting for the camera is part of the territory. But Sonja has taken it too far.
If anyone seems to be the most authentic this season, it is certainly Ramona. On this episode, it was hard to get a shot of Ramona (even though it was her birthday celebration) because it was The Sonja Show.
However, Ramona, though still mourning from her divorce, is keeping it real. At her birthday dinner, she says, "I don't know what I'm doing or where I'm going, but I don't give a sh*t."
LuAnn even tells Ramona, "You've become a much more interesting person."
Ramona used to be the current Sonja. She drank Pinot Grigio like it was water. She was mouthy and instigated fights with all of the ladies.
On this episode and for most of the season thus far, she is quiet (except for when she won Blackjack). Ramona even breaks up the initial fight between Sonja and Heather.
When the ladies start fighting again—this time when Heather was an hour later for dinner—Ramona says, "I need new friends."
For the sake of her career on the show, it is unlikely Ramona will drop her relationship with her co-stars. But like Bethenny states, "It's a real nasty group of f**king b*tches."
The other ladies did not have much airtime...because they are boring.
Carole reminded everyone she likes hickeys. Kristen wore two different colored shoes because "when you are in Atlantic City, you can wear two different Manolos," she says. And LuAnn is thinking about getting hair extensions.
Boring. But at least they are more tolerable than Sonja. A paper cut in the eye is more bearable than Sonja.
