Last year, singer Jill Scott defended Bill Cosby against allegations by more than forty women who claim they were sexually assaulted by the comedian.
"I'm respecting a man who has done more for the image of Brown people that almost anyone EVER. From Fat Albert to the Huxtables," Scott wrote on Twitter.
She added that she won't believe the charges until she sees some sort of "substantiated proof" and described the whole situation as "insane."
Scott was harshly criticized for taking Cosby's word over the dozens of alleged victims who claimed to have been assaulted, but now the singer is changing her tune in light of yesterday's revelation that in 2005, Cosby admitted to drugging women with the intent to rape them.
"I stood by a man I respected and loved. I was wrong. It HURTS!!!" Scott tweeted last night.
"Sadly his own testimony offers PROOF of terrible deeds, which is ALL I have ever required to believe the accusations,"
As hard as it is to imagine that anyone could have believed Cosby's denials despite the tidal wave of allegations against him, Scott deserves credit for admitting she was wrong.
Sadly, we imagine some Cosby defenders are still standing their ground today.
