Tony Lara Dies; Deadliest Catch Captain Was 50 Aug 11th 2015, 11:23, by Free Britney Tony Lara, who was featured on Discovery's Deadliest Catch, has died. He passed away on Saturday in South Dakota at the age of 50. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time," a spokesperson for Discovery said this morning, confirming Lara's death. Lara was in Sturgis, S.D., for its annual motorcycle rally when he died - reportedly in his sleep - over the weekend in a private home. Few other details are known at this time. According to media reports, Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin is awaiting autopsy results to determine an official cause of death. Lara's death comes less than a month after Joe McMahon, a producer on Deadliest Catch, was shot steps from his home in California.
