Last night on Agents of SHIELD Season 2 Episode 8, Coulson and company soon found themselves in a potentially crucial face-off against Hydra.
Did they prevail? And what else did we learn?
Agents of SHIELD Season 2 Episode 8 began with Whitehall trying to uncover the secrets of the Obelisk, and is told of Red Skull's death via flashback.
Back in the present day, Whitehall meets with Skye's father and is told that the Obelisk is in fact not actually a weapon per se, but a key of great consequence.
Meanwhile, Ward and his brother established themselves as flat out crazy and becoming a terrific, evil tandem to enjoy if you watch Agents of SHIELD online.
Before the epic confrontation between Coulson and the Doctor in Australia, this was a bit of a slow burner from the perspective of the series protagonists.
In the end, the episode served as more of an origins story, a world builder if you will, designed to explore the history of the bad guys and how they tie together.
The heroes were relegated to a supporting role this time around, but with so many players in this game, that's to be expected in the grand scheme.
Setting up the terrible trio and their plans will likely pay dividends as the series progresses, so look for a pivot back to the heroes in the coming weeks.
Not to mention a clash of titans before long.
