Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn announced Sunday that have broken up after three years together, and the golf great says he has not slept since.
Speaking to the media ahead of this week's Players Championship, the 14-time major winner admitted he was coming off a "brutal" few days.
"Obviously it does affect me," the athlete said, alluding to the Lindsey Vonn breakup. "It is tough, there's no doubt. I'm not gonna lie about that."
Woods went on to mention the anniversary of his father Earl's death, which just happened to be the same day his relationship news went public.
"On top of that, this time of year is really, really hard on me," he said.
"This three-day window is really hard. I haven't slept."
"These three days, May 3rd through the 5th, today, are just brutal on me. Obviously with what happened on Sunday, it just adds to it."
Tiger, 39, and Lindsey, 30, announced the split in statements online, which is also how they announced they were dating three years ago.
Woods stated briefly on his official website that it was all over Sunday:
"Lindsey and I have mutually decided to stop dating. I have great admiration, respect, and love for Lindsey, and I'll always cherish our time together."
"She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family."
"Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives," he lamented, "and are both competing in demanding sports. It's difficult to spend time together."
Asked how the recent troubles in his personal life might affect his performance on the course, Woods said he was used to juggling the two.
"That's kind of always how it's been," Tiger said.
"I've always had to deal with circumstances on both, deal with stuff outside the ropes, and once you're inside the ropes it's time to tee it up and play."
"I focus, I get into my little world, my little zone, and do the best I possibly can, for a five-hour time period, grind it out and win golf tournaments."
He hasn't done a lot of that lately.
Woods was #1 in the world as recently as 2013, but a series injuries and poor play have relegated him to non-factor status ever since.
Perhaps he needs to get back with the newly-single Rachel Uchitel. Back when he was cheating on Elin Nordegren with her, he was unbeatable.
