The gritty uSA summer hit television show Mr. Robot was scheduled to premiere its season finale Wednesday night.
But in the wake of the horrific on-air shooting in Virginia, the network has decided to postpone the episode until next week.
The television show and the shooting are unrelated, but USA made a good decision due to the finale's similar plot points.
According to a spokesperson for the network:
"The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today's tragic events in Virginia."
"Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight's episode."
"Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time."
Like many popular shows, those who watch Mr. Robot online like it for the ripped-from-the-headlines aspects of its storylines.
In other words, the show's plot is often inspired by real life events.
For instance, the members of the show's "fsociety" hacker ring wear masks similar to the Guy Fawkes design worn by the real-world analogue Anonymous.
And when the global markets sank on Monday, Mr. Robot's social media account adopted the use of #BlackMonday.
Thankfully, the network is showing sensitivity in the days after the murder of a Virginia reporter and cameraman.
This isn't the first time a television network has pulled the plug or made changes to its programming in light of a tragedy.
In 1999, the WB canceled an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that had a plot about a school shooting. It was slated to air shortly after the Columbine High School massacre.
In any case, Mr. Robot Season 1 Episode 10, the first season finale, has not been scuttled; it air on Wednesday, September 2, at 10 p.m.
