Paula Asher, 18, was jailed for two days last week after a status update on Facebook about hitting another vehicle while driving under the influence. She posted, eloquently:
“My dumbass got a DUI and I hit a car LOL.”
LOL. Or WTF?
The four people in the car Asher struck did not sustain injuries and are all fine. Their parents were not fine with Asher's Facebooking, however, and contacted a local judge.
When the judge ordered Paula to delete that post, she refused, and was promptly given a two-day jail sentence for contempt of court. She later apologized, finally.
“I didn’t think ‘LOL’ would put me in jail,” Paula wrote.
What law the judge was invoking when ordering Asher to delete her comment is unclear, but the teen faces charges with DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
What do you think? Jail over LOLing: A fair sentence?
