If you're thinking of filming a kinky, XXX film and slapping the name Fifty Shades of Grey on it, then you best be prepared for lawsuit from Universal Studios.
The company is going after several productions for doing just that, claiming they illegally made unauthorized films i.e. "Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation."
Really, that's the title. Way to make it your own guys.
Universal, along with Fifty Shades Ltd., claims the film isn't a parody, just a knockoff, and therefore isn't entitled to protection under the First Amendment.
According to the just-filed lawsuit, "The first XXX adaptation ... does not comment on, criticize, or ridicule the originals. It is a rip-off, plain and simple."
Universal says that the pornos lift "exact dialogue, characters, events, story, and style" … basically they just act out Fifty Shades of Grey sex scenes and show EVERYTHING.
As such, "[producer] Smash Pictures ensured that the first XXX adaptation was, in fact, as close to the original works as possible," and therefore a huge copyright violation.
The faux Fifty Shades of Grey movie is just the first of three, with two more in the works.
An accompanying sex toy set called Fifty Shades of Pleasure has been released, too.
Universal wants those toys recalled like yesterday, plus unspecified damages and an injunction blocking an
