Katy Perry and John Mayer have broken up, according to reports, ending a fairy tale relationship and surely devastating millions of fans nationwide.
Or not.
But it is somewhat surprising, given the duo's public displays of affection and persistent rumors that an engagement was just a matter of when, not if.
A source close to the pair says Katy Perry did the dumping. No other details about what prompted the "Dark Horse" singer's breakup were forthcoming.
Despite some ups and downs, the musical pair fast became one of Hollywood's hottest couples, sweetly gushing about each other in interviews.
They also collaborated on "Who You Love," off of his album Paradise Valley and sparked rumors more than once this year that he had proposed.
So much for that. Guess the ring on that finger was just a ring.
Katy Perry and John Mayer first went public in 2012. They split briefly, reconciled, called things off again last March, but then were going stronger than ever.
Will the pair get back together again someday? It's always possible, but we're not holding our breath. The celebrity ladies seem unable to tame John.
We're sorry for their sadness in the wake of what has to be a difficult breakup, but fellas ... there's now a one in a million chance for you once again.
