Rian Johnson is headed to a galaxy far, far away.
The writer/director will pen the script and be behind the camera for Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, Deadline has confirmed.
He'll take over on those projects for JJ Abrams, who is enjoying the same dual role for the wildly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII.

Johnson made his directing debut on the respected independent film Brick and earned rave reviews for Looper, an inventive time travel thriller that starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis
The next Star Wars movie comes out on December 18, 2015.
It will bring back original stars such as Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, while also included new faces such as Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong'o.
