Nick Viall has no regrets about his time on The Bachelorette, which isn't to say he doesn't feel awful about dropping that After the Final Rose sex bombshell.
Asked by E! if he would take back asking Andi Dorfman why they "made love" in the Fantasy Suite if he wasn't going to win, Nick insists he meant no harm.
"I said fiancée-type stuff," Nick Viall clarified. "I probably divulged enough information, so I won't get into more detail now that I'm not caught up in the moment."
"But it was a level of intimacy that was far beyond just sex for me, which obviously was part of it. It was just very passionate, intimate, personal and emotional."
"The fact that an engagement was on the line ... that was understood by both of us and I was very clear about my feelings, and she was very clear about where she wanted this to go."
To Nick, this was not about calling Dorfman a slut - as a Fox News commentator astonishingly did this week - but about clarifying his own feelings.
Just because he's a guy, Nick says, does not mean he should simply be grateful he had sex with a hot girl and just move on when to him it meant much more.
"I was very clear about where I thought it might be going," he said of his night with The Bachelorette. "I think that's kind of what I meant about it, in the situation."
In that respect, Nick is sorry about putting Andi on the spot on TV like that, but not about the feelings he expressed or the need he felt to ask the question.
"I love how people say that ['no regrets'] ... in hindsight you can always go back and change things. But again, over all, I was true to myself and I'm proud of that."
"I suppose I could always have said things differently or bit my tongue sometimes. Without question maybe you'd go back and do things a little bit differently."
"But, I certainly have no regret about putting myself out there, no regrets about focusing on her and doing what I thought was best for our relationship."
Ultimately, Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray were the ones to get engaged, as she blindsided Nick by ending their relationship before the final rose ceremony.
While Nick says he hasn't thought about being the next Bachelor (he won't be), he says the After the Final Rose sit-down was the closure he needed.
