That was quite the impressive balancing act.
For most of The Originals Season 2 Episode 11, it appeared as if this CW drama was telling three different (albeit interesting) stories.
FIRST, there was Marcel and his vampires, all trapped inside the Mikaelson compound, all starving. Oh, and Marcel had suffered a werewolf bite.
This caused him to hallucinate a soldier named Joe, who we learned (via flashback) was part of Marcel's unit in World War I. Marcel has taken command of the unit and served as its strong leader.
But after the opposition became too strong, he was talked into turning his fellow soldiers into vampires. They then went on the offensive and literally took a bite out of their German opponents.
How did this tie in to the present day? Because Gia was giving Marcel a hard time about not being a strong leader in this time of need. He took her advice to heart and he convinced his team to fight through their hunger.
When Finn lifted the barricade, in the hopes that Marcel and company would devour humans on the street and ruin the standing of supernaturals in New Orleans, Marcel held everyone together. They made it to his lift.
Once there, Gia fed him a vial of Klaus' blood and everyone else feasted on his blood bags.
SECOND, Finn used a spell to knock out Elijah and Klaus. The minds of all three brothers ended up in the same place, where Finn quickly realized Klaus was holding back a major secret (the existence of Hope, as fans know).
But you can watch The Originals online to see how Elijah and Klaus break this witchy hold: by proving that Finn's vision of them is all wrong.
Is Elijah really a noble stag? No, he openly admits to killing Tatia. Is Klaus really a vengeful monster? No, he actually forgives his brother, causing Finn's spell to be broken.
THIRD, Hayley met Jackson's grandmother and learned she has to smoke some kind of truth-telling herb in order to cleanse herself of all secrets and ensure their marriage ceremony goes through.
She's scared to do so because she holds the Hope secret.
So, how did all these stories come together?
At the end of the hour, Klaus arrives at Marcel's loft... with no one there. (As viewers know, this is because Finn has taken them hostage). He calls on Aiden to gather the werewolves and help track the vampires down.
Aiden tells him that most werewolves are at the bayou due to the pending marriage ceremony and then mentions the truth-telling thing. Klaus quickly puts together the strong possibility that Hayley may end up spilling about Hope and exits the scene, telling Aiden mysteriously:
Some secrets are better left buried.
