Gilmore Girls' cancelation still hurts for star Lauren Graham, eight years after the fact.
Not just because she loved the show and her gig, but because of how it went down ...
Take a look at the cast of Gilmore Girls, a well-loved show set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow.
Graham, 47, is getting ready to say goodbye to another successful show, the critically acclaimed Parenthood, which is in its final season on NBC.
In the case of Parenthood, this was announced and written as the final season from the start, so the cast and crew can all go out on a high note.
Not the case for Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, and the other beloved characters from Stars Hollow, Conn., on the series finale of Gilmore Girls. Why?
She said, "It's really difficult but also really nice to be able to say goodbye ... I've mainly been on shows where they just yank it and you find out later."
After seven strong seasons on the WB/CW, the actress said of Gilmore Girls' unforeseen demise, "We shot the last episode and we had no idea ..."
"There was some back and forth of what was gonna happen."
What happened was her agent tracked her down at dinner.
She recalls on The Late Show, "I was in a restaurant. I had turned my phone off, cause that's polite ... the waiter comes over and was like, 'Are you Lauren Graham?'"
"I was like, 'Yes!' And he goes, 'Your agent's on the phone!' I thought I was in a '40s movie or something. I was like, walking over to the house phone."
"I was like, 'Hello?' and he goes, 'It's canceled,' and that's how I found out that it was the end," Graham continued. "It's better to be able to say goodbye."
Wow. To think even the Gilmore Girls cast didn't know after a show with that kind of popularity got the axe? Pretty amazing, and a cautionary tale for sure.
