He's publicly apologized multiple times for some atrocious behavior over the past year and he'll be the subject of a Comedy Central Roast tonight that will prove to the world just how far he has come.
But how did he get here?
How did Justin Bieber go from being the guy who peed in a restaurant bucket and dissed Bill Clinton... to the guy who now jokes about peeing in a restaurant bucket and dissing Bill Clinton?
It started in late 2014 when a number of people inside Justin's inner circle sat him down and laid out his options.
"It was an intervention of sorts," explains an insider to E! News. "They knew the only way to fix things was to threaten to take it all away."
Because Bieber's actions (egging his neighbor's home… spending a night in jail… fighting Orlando Bloom) were starting to affect the bottom line of his business, "they had had enough of all his ridiculousness," the source says.
Yes, kids still supported Justin. But their parents were turning on him - and these parents were the ones who shelled out the money for Bieber's albums, concert tickets, etc.
"They told him his record company was in danger of dropping him. It was an ultimatum. His behavior had become unacceptable," E! writes.
With the threat of being fired sitting over his head, Bieber was left with no real option.
"He knew he had to start listening. If he didn't, he could lose everything."
This was an odd on. In April 2013, Justin Bieber said he hopes Anne Frank would be a fan of his, somehow inserting himself into the history of this iconic individual.
In January 2014, Justin Bieber peed his initials into the Colorado snow while onlookers stared in disbelief. Seems about right for the guy at this point.
Justin Bieber acts like an arrogant jerk in this footage from his deposition in Miami. Watch him wink at the camera and talk down to opposing counsel now.
As part of their rehabilitation plan, Bieber's team "decided to take him out of the limelight for a bit," figuring their client was "overexposed."
The insider says this led to some "soul searching" on Justin's part and also some new strategizing for his entourage.
For example: they purposefully sent him to a private island near Grenada for his 21st birthday, not giving the paparazzi easy access to those festivities.
There was also The Apology Tour, which included multiple appearances on Ellen and a recorded apology that included a tearful Bieber telling fans:
"We often pretend to be something we're not as a cover up of what we're truly feeling inside and there was a lot of feelings going on in there, just being young and growing up in this business is hard, growing up in general is hard...
"I really want people to know how much I care, how much I care about people."
The video was a hit. Bieber was seen as young and vulnerable again.
And now the Roast will prove that he's come full circle, that he can be self-deprecating and self-aware.
You have to straighten up, son. Last year, you were ranked the fifth most-hated person of all time. Kim Jong-Un didn't rank that low. And he uses your music to torture people.
Let's get to the reason I’m here: to give Justin some tips for when he inevitably ends up in prison... The only place people will be following you in jail is into the shower.
"He's being more of who he really is, authentic and genuine. All we can ever do is take one day at a time and put one foot in front of the other, and do the best we can do. I love him and I think his future is pretty bright."
