There's a new television personality heading your way.
Former ESPN podcaster/columnist/producer Bill Simmons has signed a multi-platform contract with HBO; he will host a weekly talk show beginning in 2016.
"Topical and spontaneous, the show will feature stories and guests from across the sports and cultural landscapes," said a network statement.
Simmons also has a production deal to produce content for both HBO's TV networks and its digital platforms and will work on video podcasts, while consulting with HBO Sports "on non-boxing-related programming, including the development of shows and documentary films for the network."
"It's no secret that HBO is the single best place for creative people in the entire media landscape," Simmons said in the press release announcing the deal.
At ESPN, Simmons helped produce the critically-acclaimed 30 for 30 documentary series and also created the website Grantland.
The network announced in May that it would not renew Simmons' contract, which expires on September, presumably due to his outspoken views and critical comments he made about ESPN management and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
