Most of us who watched Caitlyn Jenner's speech at the 2015 ESPY Awards were blown away by her courage and the stirring content of her speech.
However, it seems that when Caitlyn watched the speech herself, she was more focused on an aspect of her transition that she feels has been left unfinished.
"I really wanted to feel real comfortable up there (although there was a corset under that dress, so I don't know how comfortable I was!). I wanted to feel good. I wanted to feel pretty. I wanted to be myself," Caitlyn wrote on her personal blog yesterday.
She goes on to say that her initial reaction to her ESPYs speech was one of great relief.
She feared tripping on her gown as she walked up the stage. She's struggled with dyslexia throughout her life and was terrified by the notion of reading from a teleprompter.
But when it was all over, she was so pleased with the end result that she left the afterparty early so that she could watch the West Coast broadcast live. It was then that she decided her physical transformation remains incomplete:
"While I felt like I looked great and that the gown looked fabulous, I still have a voice issue. It's not quite right compared to my feminine appearance. That bothers me a little bit.
"However, I hope that people don't listen to the pitch of my voice, but listen to what I have to say. That's important to me."
Caitlyn has had her trachea shaved in order to give her neck a more feminine appearance. She has not, however, had any work done with vocal cords, and she has not revealed whether or not she intends to do so.
Regardless, her latest blog entry remains a stunningly personal and intimate account of an historic night, and it serves as another reminder that Caitlyn's public transition is unprecedented in its openness.
In sharing so many details, she's helping millions of Americans to better understand a growing segment of the US population, which will in turn hopefully lead to greater empathy and compassion.
So while Caitlyn may still worry about her voice, her message remains one of tremendous value.
