Tuesday night on The Real Housewives of New York City, tension briefly surrounded Ramona and Bethenny was still annoying, but the episode showed a different side of the ladies from The Big Apple.
What did we learn from this latest installment?
When The Real Housewives of New York City Season 7 Episode 16 got underway, it came as a surprise that the episode was practically drama-free.
Other than a mild Ramon-tional meltdown at a charity event, there was absolutely no fighting.
Tonight's episode kicked off in Bethenny's new apartment. Bethenny's living situation has been the subject of significant media attention and criticism.
Not only has she been embattled with her ex-husband over their Tribeca apartment, Bethenny infuriated every viewer during the season premiere episode when she called herself "homeless."
Homeless was a gross exaggeration as she checked into penthouse suites while waiting for her luxury apartment to have a facelift, complete with a Murano crystal chandelier for her 4-year-old daughter, Bryn.
So needless to say, it is a relief for us all that she is nearing relocation into her new home. No one wants to hear the whining anymore!
Bethenny continuously tries to portray a version of herself that is not unlike us regular folk. But the problem is, she is nothing like everyday people.
Her house is painted red to promote her multi-million dollar brand, Skinnygirl. She is selling unwanted chandeliers for $3,000. And her toddler's chandelier cost more than I make in a month.
She is nothing like the average person, and the more she tries, the more frustrating she becomes.
Bethenny still does a good job putting on the sob story when she talks to her therapist. And her therapist does an even better job reinforcing her sappiness.
During her therapy session, her counselor said, "You are kind of like a blitzkrieg. When you feel you are right, you don't want to hear it."
But he didn't offer her an avenue to correct her behavior. He simply just told her what the world already knows—she is b*tchy and bossy in the worst kind of way. Heather could have diagnosed that in Turks and Caicos.
Bethenny's plot on the episode was typical, but the rest of the ladies were out of character while being supportive of each other.
Carole and Dorinda may have been on opposite sides of the table during the f-bomb battle, but they stuck together on tonight's installment.
The ladies have the unfortunate bond of being young widows. Their bond brought them close enough for Carole to invite Dorinda on a trip to London to get her late husband's ashes.
While waiting in the airport, the ladies shared stories about when their husbands died. The sadness that accompanied their narratives was authentic—unlike Bethenny's sob story.
Within three weeks in 1999, Carole lost her closest friends John and Carolyn Kennedy and her husband, Anthony.
Carole seems to have healed as much as possible, but Dorinda appears in a perpetual state of devastation. The loss of a spouse is something in which one will never fully recover. But Dorinda's sadness shows that hasn't healed from the loss of her husband.
This begs question why is she with her boyfriend, John?
John is greasy and sweaty and has a history of being inappropriately flirtatious with other women. Dorinda claims he is a loving and caring boyfriend. But no one else seems to agree.
Listening to Dorinda gush about Richard, her late husband, it is clear she has not moved on. Being with John might make it easier to hang on to her husband. If she dated someone she could love as much as Richard, she would have to let Richard go.
The only drama that occurred on the episode was at Kristen's charity event for Smile Trains. At the event, she auctioned off the bedazzled jeans they created on last week's episode.
Ramona decorated her jeans with necklaces from her jewelry line True Faith. Even though Kristen advertised Heather's denim brand Yummies (worst name ever, btw), she failed to promote True Faith.
"It was a slap against sisterhood, womanhood, entrepreneurship," Ramona complained.
Sure, maybe it would have been professional and thoughtful for Kristen to mention True Faith. But the event wasn't about Ramona or her jewelry. It was centered on auctioning off the decorated jeans and raising support and awareness for children with cleft lips. Get over yourself, Ramona.
Ramona tried to pick a fight with Heather, making digs at how much (or little, according to Ramona) Yummies sell for.
But Heather wasn't having it.
Typically, Heather is the first one to engage in a fight. The fights in Turks and Caicos must have filled Heather's argument quota because she didn't even entertain Ramona's complaints.
The rest of the episode was filled with rare moments of bonding between the ladies. Carole, 51, hosted a dinner party and finally introduced Kristen and Heather to her 28-year-old boyfriend, Adam.
Carole, Heather, and Dorinda had their coffee grinds read by a Turkish reader. They laughed. Heather cried. You know, same old, same old.
The peacefulness of this episode was surprising. But, likely, this is just the calm before the storm.
