Speaking before an already-skeptical NAACP crowd, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney raised eyebrows Wednesday when he said he would do more for African-Americans than Barack Obama, the nation's first black president.
He then drew jeers when he lambasted Obama's health care law.
After promising to repeal Obamacare, which will help an estimated seven million uninsured African-Americans obtain coverage, he heard it from the audience ...
"If you want a president who will make things better in the African-American community, you are looking at him," Romney unflinchingly told the group.
Pausing as some in the crowd heckled, he added, "You take a look!"
"For real?" yelled someone in the crowd at the annual convention.
The reception was rocky at times, though generally polite as the GOP hopeful sought to woo a Democratic bloc that voted heavily for Obama in 2008.
They will undoubtedly do so again, but Romney gets credit for even showing to an event that could not be farther from his political wheelhouse.
