Watch your back, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Here comes a show that could challenge you for the most ridiculed show on TV - and it's on your own network, no less.
TLC is launching Best Funeral Ever, based on (yes) a funeral home.
Best Funeral Ever will air on December 26 as a one-time special.
If its behind-the-scenes look at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas - a truly unique establishment - gets good ratings, it's expected to be picked up as a full-time series.
Golden Gate's funeral director, John Beckwith, helps each grieving family plan an unconventional memorial service followed by what he calls a "wild party."
Extravagant funerals occasionally make the news, but this is the first we've heard of a funeral home going out of its way to create such scenarios.
"We do not have generic funerals," Beckwith says, stating the obvious to a family attending a planning session. "Everybody's experience has to be different."
He says his services have roots in the African-American community and are constructed as a more vibrant and positive occasion than some traditional funerals.
When Whitney Houston passed away this year, her family sent out invitations that said the services would be done in a somewhat similar "homegoing" style.
"We're trying to make these families extremely happy at the worst moments of their lives," Beckwith said, and for that, you have to at least respect his honesty.
