Ohio Senator Rob Portman made a stunning announcement yesterday, telling CNN in no uncertain terms that he has changed his mind on a major political issue.
"I'm announcing today a change of heart on an issue that a lot of people feel strongly about that has to do with gay couples' opportunity to marry," Portman said.

What caused the change of heart for Portman, who was on Mitt Romney's short list of Vice Presidential candidates?
His 21-year old son is gay.
"I've come to the conclusion that for me, personally, I think this is something that we should allow people to do, to get married, and to have the joy and stability of marriage that I've had for over 26 years. That I want all of my children to have, including our son, who is gay," said Portman.
Portman learned this news two years ago and said his reaction was nothing but "love" and "support."
He told Romney, during the vetting process, that his child was homosexual and Romney's camp replied that it would not be a deal-breaker.
Portman also talked to Dick Cheney, whose daughter is a lesbian and who has not announced any kind of gay marriage support - and the ex-VP offered Portman simple advice:
"Follow your heart."
It looks like that it was Rob Portman has now done.
Where do YOU stand? Do you support the rights of gay couples to marry?
