With online poll results set to be revealed on December 6, might Miley Cyrus actually join this illustrious list of global heavyweights?
The "Wrecking Ball" crooner leads voting at the moment, having earned 28 percent of user votes. That's good enough for a healthy margin over second place (Narendra Modi, 13 percent) and third place (Edward Snowden, 13 percent).
But there's a catch.
Two programmers admit they have rigged the system in Miley's favor in an attempt to make a hockey of the poll, with a Time spokesperson admitting as much to Mashable.
The publication is "aware of the efforts to affect the results of the Person of the Year poll, and have measures in place so that only legitimate votes are being incorporated in the final tally," says this rep, adding:
"We're delighted that so many people are having fun with this informal poll and contributing to the conversation [about who should win]."
In the end, editors will decide the Time Person of the Year and announce him/her on December 11.
