Geoff Edwards, the beloved 1970s and 1980s host of game shows such as Jackpot! and two incarnations of Treasure Hunt, passed away Wednesday at St. John's hospital in Santa Monica.
He was 83 years old.
Edwards was also well known as a radio DJ and actor, stopping by Petticoat Junction, I Dream of Jeannie and Diff'rent Strokes for various guest star appearances.
"Geoff was one of the cleverest, funniest radio and television personalities I've worked with," said fellow game show host Wink Martindale, who worked with Edwards at KMPC in Los Angeles.
Edwards died of complications of pneumonia, according to agent Fred Westbrook.
He made a big splash back in the day for his hip attire, which included long hair, no ties and jeans instead of suits, leading Westbrook to refer to his late client as "part of the new breed."
Edwards is survived by his wife, Michael, and stepsons Justin and Jason Feffer. He also leaves behind ex-wife Suzanne and their children Todd, Shawn and Chess, as well as nine grandchildren.
