Former Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland is not in jail, despite a police incident and media reports on the arrest and incarceration of Scott Weiland.
Say what now? Buckle up, because this is absolutely ridiculous:
Some guy arrested for stealing razors at Rite Aid and caught in possession of meth declared himself to be Weiland, and furnished police with Weiland's info.
He knew Scott's date of birth, and is a dead-ringer for the star.
On Thursday, as news reports started breaking that Weiland was behind bars, the real Scott Weiland shared a video of himself, clearly not in jail.
"I just got done reading something very interesting," a stone-faced Scott said. "A nice piece of fiction saying I was in jail and have been for months."
"I've actually been touring, writing and recording, this is the studio we're in right now. So all I have to say to our fans is don't worry, don't fret, it's a lie."
After that video went live, an L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. official said he was "definitely in custody. We did a physical check on that inmate and he is in custody."
The Beverly Hills Police Department also produced a statement confirming Weiland's arrest ... and then started looking into this and figured it out.
In a second statement, the police said:
"Police units ultimately arrested a suspect for [the] crime. Upon arrest, the suspect identified himself as former Stone Temple Pilots band member Scott Weiland."
"On Thursday, August 21, 2014, Beverly Hills Police discovered through an FBI Fingerprint Return that the subject arrested was not Scott Weiland."
"The fingerprint return positively identified the individual as Jason Michael Hurley, 44 ... who's been telling cops, "I'm Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots!"
If he were, he likely wouldn't have spent four weeks behind bars on $95,000 bail. That alone should have tipped someone off, but here we are.
Hurley will now have providing false information to law enforcement officials added on to his alleged offenses ... and is still behind bars. Scott is free.
